Adrian SMITH
Born in Dublin, Ireland, sometime at the beginning of the 1960s, Adrian graduated with an architectural degree from Dublin Institute of Technology and Bewley's Oriental Cafés (Westmoreland Street branch). Trinity College Dublin later conferred a Bachelor of Architectural Science degree which Adrian considered too impolite to refuse.
The absence of jazz record stores in 1980s Dublin, together with an affection of the films of Jacques Tati, prompted Adrian to travel to Paris in 1981, where he has lived ever since. He immediately embraced all things French (coffee, wine) and has worked on such iconic buildings as the Grande Mosquée de Casablanca and Gérard Dépardieu's guest-house.
Could it have been those childhood Sunday mornings poring over the layouts of Harold Evans' Sunday Times, with its emphasis on good typography and design that influenced Adrian; where style and content seemed mutually indispensable elements? Whatever it was, Adrian became more and more involved in graphic design and in 2013 decided to concentrate on this activity.
His Wikipedia profile (suspended at his request) spoke of an interest in single-estate coffee, Javanese gamelan and collecting orange and lemon wrapping papers. Adrian has never publicly commented on these suggestions but you may contact him personally at adrian@graphismith to discuss these or any other topics.
